Abstract

This research explores the intricate relationship between law and morality, underscoring their interconnection in promoting justice and social stability. Despite their distinct natures, law and morality are fundamentally interconnected, guiding human behavior and shaping societal norms. The study employs a qualitative descriptive approach, incorporating a doctrinal analysis with a focus on the influence of moral and local cultural values on the Indonesian legal system. Through a comprehensive literature review, the research examines the interrelation of legal principles and moral theories, highlighting their practical implications. The findings reveal that law, while a system of norms, must embody moral values to serve society effectively. The study challenges traditional views that treat law and morality as separate entities, proposing instead that moral standards underpin laws. This integration is significantly influenced by religious and cultural contexts, which provide the moral basis for legal norms, thereby ensuring their authority and legitimacy. The research contributes to legal studies by demonstrating the necessity of a moral foundation in law and its implications for creating fair and just legal systems. Key themes include the transition from theoretical to practical norms in law, the influence of cultural and religious contexts on legal morality, and the essential role of ethics in legal formulations. The study concludes that integrating moral principles into legal frameworks is crucial for maintaining justice and social order, and for advocating a legal system that reflects ethical standards and promotes a harmonious society. This integration not only enhances the legitimacy of legal norms but also ensures that they are aligned with the broader moral and ethical values of the community.
