Abstract

The extradition treaty between the Republic of Indonesia and the Republic of Singapore signed in Bintan, Riau Islands on January 25, 2022, has been formalized into Law Number 5 of 2023 concerning the Ratification of the Extradition Treaty between the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of the Republic of Singapore. This agreement also applies retroactive principles that apply retroactively up to the past 18 years. This article will examine the problems related to the legal politics of the ratification of Law Number 5 of 2023 concerning the Ratification of the Extradition Treaty, as well as the philosophical, juridical, and sociological foundations of the ratification of this law. The approach used in this writing is a normative juridical approach by analyzing the ratification of Law Number 5 of 2023 concerning the Agreement Between the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of the Republic of Singapore concerning the Extradition of Fugitives. Data collection was carried out with a qualitative approach involving literature materials and literature studies. The results obtained show that the Indonesian government has taken important steps in fulfilling its international obligations regarding the extradition of fugitives. This ratification demonstrates a strong commitment to strengthening international cooperation in the field of law enforcement, with a focus on justice for all Indonesian people. This not only increases the effectiveness of law enforcement in the country, but also reflects the readiness of Indonesia and Singapore to work together in tackling cross-border crime, upholding justice, and maintaining stability in the Southeast Asian region, especially Indonesia and Singapore
